The Cemetery and Its Trees
The Wright City community is truly fortunate to have such a special place with a park-like setting that demonstrates the enduring beauty of trees, some of which have been standing long before the founding of Warren County or Wright City. No matter what time of year you visit the cemetery, the beauty of the many trees is truly a sight to enjoy!
The Cemetery Memorial Society is grateful to those who designed the cemetery and did not clear-cut the grounds but rather left oaks, cedars and some maples throughout the acreage.
As the trees aged, many had to be removed, and the memorial society aided the city in funding the safe removal of the large trees. For several years, city officials placed a ban on any new trees being planted in the cemetery. In 2014, the Society asked the Board of Aldermen to consider establishing a policy that would allow for trees to be planted in the cemetery. Under the new policy, the Aldermen must approve the planting of any new tree.
Since 2014, 20 trees have been planted in the cemetery. Each tree has been donated by an individual or family in memory or honor of a loved one. Trees have been chosen to create a diverse tree stand, and several new varieties are now thriving in the cemetery.
The trees are professionally planted, and once planted, the Society takes over their care-mulching, watering and applying insecticidal treatment.
Persons interested in finding out more about donating a tree to the cemetery,
should contact the Memorial Society. We thank all donors!
